We write a lot of blog posts for our brides, but sometimes the gentlemen have questions too. This is how you accessorize your man, (or yourself, if you’re a man reading this) for your big day, night on the town, or any other time you need to be drop-dead handsome!
We consider pants, shirt, shoes and a jacket necessary. Some basic choices men have include suspenders, or a belt and vest. After that, there are more options than most men think!
Watch – While watches aren’t really needed to tell time anymore, they are a great masculine accessory that will alleviate your pants pockets from your phone. Pick a watch that matches your belt and your personality and you’re in for a winner.
Ring – Of course, if you are getting married, this piece of hardware comes later in the day. Nonetheless, it’s still an accessory you can wear with pride from now on!
Tie/tie clasp/tie pin – On your wedding day, you must have a tie. It can be a regular tie, skinny tie (my personal preference—they’re more slimming) or even a bowtie. The tie is fortunate enough to have its own accessory: a tie clasp or a tie pin. Either one works, and each adds to the whole attire while keeping the tie out of your meal.
Matching Socks – The fad of crazy socks has come and gone, but the ability to up your style with a pair of socks remains. Add a bit of flair to your bottom half and pick a pair of socks that stands out and matches the colors of the rest of your attire.
#Confession: I don’t wear socks that match, ever. I read once that some of the most successful creative people don’t wear matching socks, so the color of my socks never matches, though the patterns do. Ask me to show you at your wedding!
Pocket Square – Pocket squares are an easy way to bolster your suit. With a wide range of folding techniques, you can always make its appearance fit your style.
Cufflinks – Cufflinks add class to any suit. When you choose a pair of cufflinks, make sure the metal is the same type as all your other accessories. This will ensure a high-class ensemble Gatsby himself would be proud of.
Lapel Pin – We don’t see many of these, but they can be a great accessory to add some bling to your jacket. On the left collar of a suit jacket, there is usually a stitching or opening for something like a button. A lapel pin fits in that slot and can range from small flowers to golden crests.
Collar Pins – If you think that your tie doesn’t have enough bling, or you’re omitting a tie all together, collar pins are the way to go. These little gems are like cufflinks for your collar—super classy and brimming with personality.
Signet Ring – It’s a secret dream of mine to own a really cool signet ring, like Tom Hardy has in Legend. Until that day, I will still marvel at the men brave enough to wear one.
This accessory is fairly ceremonial. We didn’t have them at our wedding because they can be clunky and get mangled through all of the hugs. (Plus, there’s no way mine would have stayed on on the dance floor!) If you choose to have them at yours, make sure they’re pinned in a uniform fashion!
