What’s more romantic than a mountaintop wedding? If you want to have your Boise wedding on a mountain, Bogus Basin might just be the perfect wedding location! With stunning views from Pioneer Lodge, Bogus Basin weddings are breathtaking. Before living in Boise I used to love sitting on the right side of the plane as we flew in to photograph weddings or to visit family, just so I could see the incredible views of the Boise foothills. Picture celebrating your best day surrounded by mountain air and those spectacular views. As wedding photographers in Boise, Bogus Basin is one of our favorite local mountaintop locations for wedding or engagement photos. Here are our best tips for planning a Bogus Basin wedding:
Bogus Basin has both indoor and outdoor space for weddings. Couples can rent Pioneer Lodge, or choose to have a wedding outside nearby, on a large concrete pad overlooking the Boise National Forest. The first time I saw the outdoor space at Bogus Basin, I couldn’t believe how beautiful it was. A truly unique location, conveniently less than an hour from downtown Boise, Bogus Basin is an amazing backdrop for a wedding celebration!
Getting married at Bogus Basin will include some logistical challenges, and hiring a wedding planner who can bring your mountain wedding vision to life is highly recommended! Your wedding planner will not only maximize the wedding experience for you and your guests, they will also take the lead on all logistics—a huge help when planning a wedding in a somewhat remote location like Bogus Basin.

Because the elevation up at Bogus Basin is 6800 feet, the mountain is often about 15 degrees colder than Boise or more. This is great for summer weddings in Boise: more moderate summer temperatures are comfortable for wedding guests. The Bogus Basin website includes helpful information about weather and conditions, updated in real time.
Bogus Basin is a little off the beaten path. With a 45+ minute drive up the mountain from Boise on a two lane road most of the way, your wedding guests will have a better experience (and arrive on time) if you share access information with them ahead of time. Include directions, drive time, and parking information with guests on your invitations or wedding website. Signage along the way will also help your guests find the wedding location easily. Include signs at the bottom of Bogus Basin Road, at Parking lot #1, Parking lot #3, and at the Pioneer Parking lot directing guests to the wedding location. When possible, share the Bogus Basin parking lot map with guests as well.
One thing to note is that Pioneer Lodge is not handicap accessible.
From a guest experience perspective, having both your wedding ceremony and reception at Bogus Basin will eliminate the need for guests to travel up and down the mountain to a second location.

Wedding photography is my heartbeat. For me, it holds the perfect tension between creativity and authenticity, observation and connection. In front of my camera clients transform to friends, and behind it you'll usually find me tearing up, cheering you on, or holding my breath because of the raw goodness of the moment at hand.
