It’s no secret that we love shoes. Becky certainly fits the stereotype that women have a lot of shoes, but I too have an entire shoe rack full. What’s not so readily known, is that I’m Becky’s personal shoe dresser! More often than not, right before we’re about to leave to anywhere besides the gym, Becky asks me, “What shoes should I wear?!” That’s why I’m writing this post (not that she has bad shoe taste, love you b 😘).
There are a few things to consider when choosing your wedding shoes. Color, style, practicality, and comfort all come into play when picking your shoes for your wedding day! Here’s some advice about each.
There are generally two main ways to look at the color of your wedding day shoes: white (or a close neutral) OR a wedding color. If you’re a classic bride who believes in elegance, white shoes are the way to go—they’re a timeless classic and will tie in with your wedding dress. Choosing nude, black, or neutral colored shoe keeps that classic look, while adding a dash of visual interest. If you want a splash of color in her attire, then you might choose wedding shoes that are a color of your wedding palette—it’s a great way to connect your color scheme.
The style of your shoes depends on your personal style and the style of your wedding. We’ve seen stilettos, flats, sandals, wedges, and even high tops (yes, they were Becky’s wedding shoes!). Choose your dress first, so you can consider how your shoes will look with the dress of your dreams! (*You may need to know whether or not you'll be selecting heels when you get fitted for your dress alterations, but we still recommend choosing your dress before selecting the actual pair of shoes you'll wear with it!)
You may find a beautiful pair of shoes, but you should think about how practical they are before you commit. Can you walk in them? Are they the right height for your dress? Are your feet going to be sore after wearing them all day? Maybe most importantly, can you dance in them?! You wear your wedding shoes ALL day. Keep that in mind when you’re trying shoes on.
Pro tip: No one said you only had to wear one pair of shoes on your wedding day. If you do choose elegant heels to wear, think about wearing them just for your photos and wedding ceremony. Then, bring a backup pair that are more practical and more comfortable. Most of the time, your dress covers your feet anyway!
