I met Maddie and Jack with their planner, Kristen from Deux Clare, at the Harold Washington Library on a warm fall day for their final walkthrough. Just being in the space, I knew their Harold Washington Library wedding photos would be an amazing culmination of the story of their wedding day. Walking into the Winter Garden on the top floor of the library was like being in a sunny outdoor sanctuary without the outside air. A ceiling of glass exposing the Chicago sky, the reception space at Harold Washington Library had the feel of a luxe garden. With robust architecture and a terrazzo and marble floor, the space only needed an infusion of autumn sunset colors through florals to tie in the design of Maddie and Jack’s wedding.
I can hardly think of a more relaxed bride than Maddie on her wedding day. As we watched Maddie and Jack with their family, wedding party, and guests, they moved effortlessly around every room they entered. One of my favorite parts of the day was watching them greet and hug their guests during the cocktail hour. With each person they encountered, we could feel the warmth of their conversations. The room was bustling and they were loving every minute of it.
As dinner in the Winter Garden at Harold Washington Library ended and the band started playing, the dance floor filled with their family and friends, the final piece of their celebration was dancing the night away. After getting married, roaming the Museum Campus with their best friends, and spending time chatting with all the people who came to celebrate them, they closed the night with the celebration of a lifetime.
Wedding photography is my heartbeat. For me, it holds the perfect tension between creativity and authenticity, observation and connection. In front of my camera clients transform to friends, and behind it you'll usually find me tearing up, cheering you on, or holding my breath because of the raw goodness of the moment at hand.
