When wedding vendors collaborate with the goal to create, you know it’s going to be good! When Bree from Cedar Box Blooms reached out to me to see if I’d be interested in teaming up to put together some spring wedding inspiration for Boise couples, I was so excited to jump in. Coming out of the winter slump of colder weather and cloudy skies, we focused these fresh, editorial studio wedding portraits on spring and summer floral inspiration.
We brought in Nickie from Pretty Please Beauty to execute three separate looks for hair and makeup and brought in gowns from Ivoire Bridal, a bridal boutique that recently opened in northwest Boise. The ladies over at Style Haus West helped my studio dreams come true by putting together some custom drapery we used for a couple of the looks. The custom drapery added an exquisite texture to the space and we just loved having it available for photographs!
From a wedding photographer’s perspective, I loved that this editorial is inspirational and introduces a concept in the realm of possibility for Boise couples getting married—studio wedding portraits. Some of the venues in Boise are amazing logistically for weddings and out of town guests, but don’t always have an aesthetically pleasing space for portraits outside of the actual ceremony or reception space, which is oftentimes either not set up in time for pre-wedding portraits or focused on guest experience (as it should be) and therefore not ideal for portraits. I loved exploring the idea that couples getting married in Boise could use a studio space like this for convenient and beautiful portraits in the city if it fits the vibe and experience they’re after with their wedding!
Photographing editorials is always creatively thrilling. In real weddings, I take creative inspiration from the couple, the design, and the way their story is woven into the event, but when it comes to editorials, the collaborative partners get to set a vision for the vibe and visuals. Here’s an inside look into the three vignettes we created for this editorial shoot:
For the first look, we paired a wedding gown with clean, contemporary lines with a textured wildflower inspired bouquet. With no focal flowers, the smaller blooms of the wildflower inspired bouquet grounded the look in natural beauty. Paired with the overskirt and classic bow featured on the back of the gown, the wildflower bouquet brought a feminine, organic vibe to the contemporary portraits.
For this garden lush style, we paired a monochromatic buttercream bouquet with a wedding gown overlaid with soft lace. The flowy sleeves and floral appliques echoed the romantic vitality of the bouquet. We pulled in gold jewelry to imitate the buttercream yellow accent. The photographs were focused on effortless movement and organic shapes.
For the third bridal look, we played with two different wedding bouquets. The first was a colorful, whimsical bouquet designed around vibrant poppies. Bree used spring colors and unique lines to bring visual interest and whimsy to this alluring bridal style. The second bouquet featured a modern arch shape of tulips and roses. This modern take on a bridal bouquet brought soft spring vibes with a serendipitous twist.
