This week we’re answering the big question—
Doing a first look with your spouse-to-be can be one of the BEST parts of your wedding day. We never require our couples to do a first look, but we highly recommend it for the following 4 reasons:
You invest a lot in wedding photography, and doing a first look gives you a lot more photos of you and your spouse-to-be! These photos are most likely the ones you’re going to hang in your home and put in your album. Doing a first look can give you more for your investment!
You get time alone together on your wedding day! While having your closest friends and family with you on your wedding day is a dream come true, it’s so special to be able to spend a few minutes alone with your man. Instead of being at opposite ends of the aisle, you get to be right next to each other when you see each other for the first time, where you can hug and have some private time alone!
First looks extend your wedding day. Without a first look, the wedding day starts with the ceremony and you walking down the aisle. It allows you to enjoy the portrait time with your groom and with your wedding party instead of rushing to try to squeeze them in between the ceremony and the reception. Doing a first look will help your photo time feel more relaxing and give you time to hang with your guests during your cocktail hour!
You get rid of nerves! Because you’ve already seen each other, exchanged words, hugs, and kisses, you can RELAX and enjoy the rest of our wedding day. TOGETHER.
On our wedding day, my first look with Kaleb was my FAVORITE part of the day. He’s the one who calms me, who makes me feel beautiful, who can make my day better with just a single touch or phrase. We were so thankful to spend some time alone together during our first look, but also that we got to spend SO MUCH of our wedding day together. He was the one I wanted to be with, and it made each part of our day that much better.
Wedding photography is my heartbeat. For me, it holds the perfect tension between creativity and authenticity, observation and connection. In front of my camera clients transform to friends, and behind it you'll usually find me tearing up, cheering you on, or holding my breath because of the raw goodness of the moment at hand.
