Accessories for Her

Pairing the right accessories with your outfit can really add dimension and style to your photographs.

Whether you’re planning your outfit for an upcoming photo session or trying to choose the right accessories for your wedding day, this is for you!

The Basics

We consider a dress or skirt to be the starting point for most women’s outfits. (Wondering about accessories for your man? Check out THIS POST!) Beyond that, basic accessory choices include jewelry, shoes, and belts. While that may seem very basic, you have more options than you think!

Jewelry

Rings – Of course if you’re getting married, this is something that comes a little later in the day, but if you’re getting ready for an engagement or portrait session, rings are tiny accessories that add a lot of flare! For your engagement session, make sure to get your ring cleaned a couple days in advance to make sure it’s nice and sparkly! For other sessions, consider a ring that adds a little shine without stealing the show.|

Bracelets/Watch – Add a feminine touch to your outfit by choosing a petite watch or a bracelet that matches the finish on your other jewelry.

Necklace – Big statement necklaces will bring a lot of pop to your images, while smaller, more delicate ones are not as noticeable on camera.

Earrings – I’m a pearls girl and tend to wear the same earrings most days. But for your session, consider whether your hair will be up or down as you choose your earrings, and don’t forget to match the finish of your other jewelry!

Belts – When worn at your true waistline, belts cinch your waist and help give feminine shape to most tops.

Pro Tip: Jewelry and belts add a lot of visual interest to your photos, so choose one or two that don’t compete for attention.

Shoes

Closed-toes heels look great on camera, but if your toes are showing in a peep-toe heel, you might want to get a pedicure before your session! Because we think heels flatter the female body, we recommend wearing them for your session BUT also bringing along a pair of flip flops or comfortable shoes to walk in. If you’re worried about your height, consider a smaller heel or some elegant sandals or flats, depending on the style of your outfit.

Wedding Specific:  The Bouquet

Wedding bouquets add a touch of color and a whole lot of visual interest to your photos! They’re a must-have for your wedding day!

A Few Other Ideas:

Sunglasses – We LOVE Ray Bans or Warby Parker. These are great for a few fun shots.

Nails – We always recommend getting a manicure before your session. Having clean, manicured nails adds a simple polished touch!

Wedding photography is my heartbeat. For me, it holds the perfect tension between creativity and authenticity, observation and connection. In front of my camera clients transform to friends, and behind it you'll usually find me tearing up, cheering you on, or holding my breath because of the raw goodness of the moment at hand.
