Wedding days can fly by. With so many moving pieces, beautiful traditions, sacred moments, and spaces filled with loved ones, it's easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of wedding activities.
Instead, pause.
In each room you're in, stop and look around. Take a few deep breaths.
The people around you, the way you feel, the little details—soak them in.
When your wedding day has come and gone, the only things you'll have are the photographs and the memories from your best day. The more you are able to be fully present, savoring moments on your wedding day, the more you will remember.
Sometimes there are barriers to letting yourself relax and be present on your wedding day, things that get in the way of savoring. Here are three ways to set yourself up to let go of the details and savor your wedding day:
Having a wedding planner means that you literally hire someone to coordinate the details and take care of them on your wedding day! Having someone dedicated to the details means that you don't have to worry about them on your wedding day.
Getting full nights of sleep during the week leading up to your wedding is SO important! Make sleep a priority so your mind and body can function well for your wedding.
Having cushion time built in your wedding day timeline keeps you from being on the go all day long. Here are some ideas for building extra time into your day from a photography perspective:
First Look then Couple Portraits: Having couple portraits immediately following your first look means that you're able to spend a few minutes together—uninterrupted—before jumping into the rest of your day.
Post-Ceremony: Right after you're officially married, make sure you have time to celebrate together and hug your loved ones!
Cocktail Hour: If you've taken most of your photos earlier in the day, you're able to step away for 10-15 minutes during the cocktail hour for some alone time with your new spouse!
Sunset Portraits: If possible, we love taking couples out for 5-10 minutes during the reception to capture some golden hour portraits. We love how special these portraits always look and feel, when you're finally married and enjoying the celebration with family and friends! During these portraits, we give less direction and give couples a few minutes to just be together.
Wedding photography is my heartbeat. For me, it holds the perfect tension between creativity and authenticity, observation and connection. In front of my camera clients transform to friends, and behind it you'll usually find me tearing up, cheering you on, or holding my breath because of the raw goodness of the moment at hand.
