Spring Engagement Session Tips

Plan Your Layers

No matter the season, wearing multiple layers gives depth to your outfits. Because spring weather can be unpredictable, plan your outfits with layers in mind. For men, pairing something like a three quarter sleeve shirt or v-neck with a suit jacket leaves options for both warmer and cooler weather. For ladies, bringing along your favorite leather jacket or light coat can add both variety and warmer options in case the weather is cool.

Consider a chance of rain

During the spring months, the chance for rain may be higher. When looking ahead at the weather, think specifically about hair styles and locations that could work in windy or rainy conditions. For example, choosing a location downtown Chicago or Boise may offer more covered options if the weather is iffy. If there's a chance of rain, it could be better to pin some of your hair up instead of wearing it all down. That way, it will still have some volume and body.

Close-toed shoes

Spring engagement sessions are the perfect time to rock close-toed shoes. Whether heels with your favorite long dress or boots with a shorter dress, choosing close-toed shoes will both elongate your legs AND work in almost any weather!

Avoid busy spring patterns

Tiny patterns don't always photograph well, so stay focused on spring outfits that have solids or larger patterns.

Wedding photography is my heartbeat. For me, it holds the perfect tension between creativity and authenticity, observation and connection. In front of my camera clients transform to friends, and behind it you'll usually find me tearing up, cheering you on, or holding my breath because of the raw goodness of the moment at hand.
