As a Boise engagement photographer, I often spend time scouting locations for engagement photos. With so many beautiful options to choose from in the foothills of Boise, one of my favorites is the Military Reserve.
Covering over 700 acres of land, the Military Reserve is located in the northeast section of Boise. It is home to natural landscapes, native plants, winding creeks and rolling hills. With golden brown grasses and sage green plants, the natural backdrop of the Military Reserve is beautiful for engagement photos.
Because the Military Reserve hosts hiking trails, paths make it easy to navigate during a photo session, with stunning views within a few minutes of hiking.
As a photographer, my number one priority when it comes to engagement photos is light. The Military Reserve offers photo locations with open shade, which allows me to capture soft light on the couple from head to toe. It also has photo locations with vast open sky above, making sunrise or sunset engagement sessions the best time of day for me to capture couples soaked in beautiful golden light!
In addition to looking at light, I always pay attention to the surfaces that bounce the light around the space. The neutral colors of the Boise landscape keep the bounced light clean in color cast.
Finally, as an engagement photographer, I love when photo locations have a variety of backdrops. The Military Reserve has locations where I’m able to photograph the vast landscape of the Boise foothills and amazing views of downtown Boise. It shows off the mountainous landscape overlooking the Boise skyline. I love the way the Military Reserve holds so many characteristics of Boise in one location, and love telling the stories of our couples in this spot!
