Your First Look

One of my favorite photographs from our wedding day is from our first look, him hugging me tight like he still does often, before gently kissing the top of my shoulder.

I sat eagerly in the back seat of the car, my eyes barely open to make sure I didn’t peak, hardly remembering to breathe.  As much as I love my girls, HE was the one I wanted to be with. I could hardly wait. We pulled up to the spot we had chosen for our first look and my personal attendant helped me out of the car. I took a long, deep breath in, running my hands down the front of the dress I couldn’t wait for him to see.  I looked up with a smile.

It was time to be with my man!

As I turned toward him and began to walk closer, I remember the flood of emotions I felt.  When I saw him from behind, waiting for me, I couldn’t help but rock back and forth, dancing with excitement.  I walked closer, covering my mouth with my hand, fighting back tears.

That moment was so special, and it was ours.  One of my favorite photographs from our wedding day is from our first look, him hugging me tight like he still does often, before gently kissing the top of my shoulder.

A lot of couples choose to do a first look, but unless they have witnessed a first look, they don’t know exactly what to expect.

Your First Look

For your first look, Kaleb and I will scout out a beautifully lit location, one with soft, even light. Kaleb will bring the groom to the first look spot and get him set up in a spot where he won’t see you, his bride, before he’s ready. I’ll walk you out to the spot as soon as your groom is set and ready to go. We’ll walk up behind him, stopping about 10 feet away.  I’ll fluff your dress and take some steps back to give you and your groom space, because that moment is JUST for you.

Your handsome groom will turn around and see you in the stunning dress you picked to wear on that special day.  You’ll get to hug, cry, laugh, talk, and stare as much as you want while Kaleb and I shoot from a distance, capturing your intimate moment together.

When you’re ready, we’ll take some more photos of you and your groom while you’re feeling the love and excitement of finally being together for your wedding day! Kaleb and I LOVE first looks for so many reasons! Check back next week to read more about why we think you should do one!

Wedding photography is my heartbeat. For me, it holds the perfect tension between creativity and authenticity, observation and connection. In front of my camera clients transform to friends, and behind it you'll usually find me tearing up, cheering you on, or holding my breath because of the raw goodness of the moment at hand.
