Why have an engagement session with your wedding photographer?

We're all about doing engagement sessions with our wedding photography couples, and here's why...

The fog was so heavy you could hardly see the road. As we drove up the twists and turns of the mountain road near our North Carolina home, the view was mesmerizing. The drive to our engagement session was one of my favorite car rides in the two years we lived in North Carolina. When Kaleb and I were engaged, we were living in North Carolina but planning a Chicagoland wedding. We had a Chicagoland photographer lined up to photograph our wedding, and she came out to North Carolina for our engagement session too!

We're all about doing engagement sessions with our wedding photography couples, and here's why:

Photographer Connection

Being comfortable with your photographer prior to your wedding day makes your wedding SO much better! Your photographer will spend your whole wedding day with you, so having a comfortable connection with that person is important. As photographers, we cherish the intimate access we have to the best moments of your wedding day, and being relationally connected to our clients makes it even more of a treasure.

Practice for your wedding day!

Working with your photographer prior to your wedding day means you’ll be totally prepared for the photography portion of your day. We’re able to capture SO many more couple portraits on wedding days when we’ve already had a couple in front of our cameras, because they already know the drill! We’re able to spend less time “warming them up” to the camera and more time capturing the moments that will spark memories of the best day of their lives.

Engagement Albums & Guest Books

A lot of our couples order an album with their engagement session images to have in their future home or to use as a guest book for their wedding!

Quality Time

We always recommend making a date out of your engagement session! Preparing for marriage is so important, and finding time to really connect during the busy season of wedding planning is a priority in our book. The bonus is that you're already looking amazing for photos!

The Photographs

On top of all the other benefits, you get awesome photos with your best friend and favorite person in the whole world in a season where you're anticipating a different kind of life together. We want all our couples to have photographs to preserve the memories of this particular season of life.

Whether you're a local Studio Ostendo couple or not, we love finding ways to make engagement sessions happen for all these reasons!

I'm a Co-founder and Lead Photographer at Studio Ostendo.

Wedding photography is my heartbeat. For me, it holds the perfect tension between creativity and authenticity, observation and connection. In front of my camera clients transform to friends, and behind it you'll usually find me tearing up, cheering you on, or holding my breath because of the raw goodness of the moment at hand.
