It’s always the best to work with clients year after year. After photographing Katie and Sam’s wedding, it was such a joy catching up with them for their maternity photos at the beach!
As a photographer, it’s such an honor when clients trust me with the details of their session. Trusting clients are a huge part in creating beautiful photographs! When I was chatting with Katie about her maternity photos, she gave me free reign to choose a location for the session. As I thought about locations we had used for Katie and Sam’s photos in the past, I wanted to choose something different. Being a momma myself, I started thinking about a calm place to capture this season of life for Katie and Sam, and the beach instantly came to mind! In terms of quiet, restful locations, the beach is hard to beat!
We chose Indiana Dunes National Park for Katie and Sam’s beach maternity photos. I love the location of the sunset at this beach, and had the best time exploring the beach with this sweet couple!
During maternity sessions, I love prompting parents to reflect on the journey they’re navigating. Especially as new parents, it can feel like there is so much to do to prepare for welcoming a new baby into your home and family. During Katie and Sam’s session as we walked along the beach, we didn’t just talk and catch up on life. I asked them to share with each other something they are excited about as they anticipate their new baby. I asked them to share what they are loving about this season of expecting a new baby. As the photographer, I don’t always listen to the answers, but love watching couples share their thoughts and feelings with each other. Seeing their reactions and watching them take time to pause during their maternity photo session creates some of the best images that show how they are really feeling.
